- I edited my account a while ago and it's still not approved, what is taking so long?
The approval process usually takes less than 24 hours, but sometimes we take a weekend off to help feed the homeless and play checkers with the elderly.
Therefore, if it's been 25 hours since you submitted changes to your profile, relax a bit. We will probably get to it soon, and you will receive
an email when it's live again.
Sometimes though there is a problem, and your profile stayed unapproved for an unexpectedly long amount of time. This usually occurs because there was
a problem when you uploaded a new picture file. Sometimes the web server freaks out and the file upload process fails and your profile "gets stuck" in
approval purgatory.
If you profile seems to have gone unapproved for too long, please LOG IN FIRST and then check your profile now and see if everything looks ok. (You can see what your own profile
looks like regardless of its approval status if you are logged into your account.)
If there is not a picture file, then reupload it and then reload your profile. If the new picture file loads properly, then you account will probably be approved within 24 hours.
If there was a picture file, and everything else appears to be OK, then we suggest you
re-edit your account. (You don't even have to change anything, just goto "Edit Your Account" on the "Your Account" page and then click submit after your information comes up like you were going to change something.)
This will submit your account for review again and hopefully put your account successfully back into the approval process. If all else fails, email us.
- What is the purpose of this site?
Do you and your friends ever use the phrase "She was a "4" at best," or "He's a perect 10!"
Well that's what RateMyFace.com is. An online ratings game, plus much more.
Users submit their pictures and answer
a few short questions in order to interact with
other members through email messages and voting.
Tastes are subjective and we believe
this site will provide a medium beyond just simple rating and allow users
to seek out
other people who share the same interests.
- I have a picture, but my picture is a bitmap (BMP) file, now what do I do?
We don't accept bitmaps files, not because we hate them, but because Internet browsers don't support them.
But if your file is a BMP file there is hope! Open Windows Paint (assuming you are running Windows -
if not, why aren't you supporting Bill Gates? He needs our help.)
which is located at START MENU > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > PAINT.
Then open your picture file, and select "Save As" from the FILE menu and
save your picture as a JPG. Then try to reupload the pic.
- RateMyFace.com seems very superficial.
How do you sleep at night knowing this?
While rating people against each other based
on a picture a short bio can be entertaining,
it may be perceived by some as preposterous
and degrading. To answer our critics, what a
site like RateMyFace.com teaches us is that
regardless of what we are led to believe in
life, what other people may think of you is
inconsequential to how the individual should
see his or herself. Self-confidence means exactly
that: self-confidence. Of course it is interesting
to see how others may "rate" us, yet those users
who derive their ultimate self-value from the
perceptions of other people are mistaken. End of philosophy lesson.
Regardless,
most of our users are on this site purely because
it is a unique and fun way to get to know other people
online. Remember, no one is forced to join or view the
site and the parameters by which they will interact
are quite understood. If you don't like our site pray for
our forgiveness and point your browser to Disney.com or something.
- How come I am rated a 10, yet not on
the top guys/girls list?
In order to be listed on the top guy or girl's
lists, you have to be voted on 10 times. This
keeps the list from being dominated by new profiles
with one or two really high votes.
- How come I am rated differently on the Top Guy/Girls page then on my profile?
In an effort to increase the speed of the RateMyFace.com network the Top Guys and Top Girls pages are
generated on a regular basis, rather than dynamically every time
someone clicks on the pages. Therefore if your vote has changed since the last time the Top Guys/Girls pages have been generated, your rating will be different.
- I am voted a 1. Is that good or bad?
Very bad, and you are probably a virgin too right?
Well, unless everyone on the site misunderstood. Our
voting scheme is 1 is the worst, 10's are the
best. But remember don't take any of the rating too
seriously. There are people out there voting to pull everyone
down no matter who you are.
- If I edit my account, will my rating be reset as well?
No, your account will be hidden from users until our administrators reapprove it though. But your rating will remain the same.
- How often can I vote?
You can vote once a day. We reset the vote
log every night at midnight eastern time.
- Can I change my online name?
No. All your information (profile, rating, messages) are linked via your online name. Therefore, the only way to change your name would be to delete your unwanted account, and then recreate a new one under the desired online name.
- How do I remove my profile/picture from the site?
Why you would want to do this, we have no idea. But if you must, log into your account and there will be a "Delete Your Account" option.
- I spotted what I believe to be a fake or duplicate account. What do I do?
Please send us email notifying us of the suspicious account.
- How do I contact other people on the
site?
You can contact any of the people on the site
via RateMyFace messaging. In order to write
messages, though, you need your own picture
and profile. This way both parties of a message
get to see what the other person looks like
and what the other person's profile says, avoiding anonymous messages from dirty old men.
- How come Instant Messenger doesn't work for me?
Make sure you have pop-up blockers turned off for the domains ratemyface.com and www.ratemyface.com.
The person you are messenging will also need to have pop-up blockers turned off.
In addition, in order to run the client, you need Internet Explorer 5.0 or above or Mozilla 1.0 and above. MAC browsers lack the support for Flash - JavaScript communication or Java - so at this time, those browsers are not supported.
- How come I receive the message "The data that the plugin requested, did not download successfully." when I launch Instant Messenger?
Computers that have QuickTime
configured as the default
audio player will get this message from time to time.
Has nothing to the do
with the script, rather sometimes QuickTime is unable to
connect to its own
servers.
If you remove the sound notifications, it will take
away this message.
See the Quicktime FAQ for more information: http://www.knowledgenetwork.ca/footer/videofaq.html#5
- What is your "last updated" time based on?
The server resides in the Eastern United States and the time
is therefore based on Eastern time.
- What is your privacy policy?
You can view our Privacy Policy here.
- Can I have more than one picture?
Yes and No. We do not support multiple images
at this time, but you can upload one image file
with multiple pictures of you. This requires
a little creativity and image editing know how. But we are confident you can pull
it off.
- How do I get my picture on my computer,
not to mention your site?
There are many ways to get a picture on your
computer. Often, photo developers can email
your roll of film, process digitally, for a
small fee. You can use scanners at retailers like Kinkos and Ritz Camera for a reasonable price.
Also, you can try making friends with someone who has a scanner and just use their's.
Or go ahead a buy a scanner yourself cheapskate. Some as low as $50.
- I have a fabulous business and I would like to promote it on your site. Is this possible?
Sure, we will take your money. Contact us at sales@ratemyface.com and we will discuss our rate card for banner ads and sponsorship opportunities.
- You guys didn't answer my question. How can I contact you?
Visit the contact page. That should give you the information you are looking for.
